Inclusion in the Super Lawyers® list is reserved for no more than 5% of the state’s attorneys, and the Rising Stars℠ list is reserved for no more than 2.5%. Attorneys who are selected for Super Lawyers® are those who have demonstrated the greatest levels of peer recognition and professional achievement within their legal careers. After candidates are nominated by their peers, they undergo independent research and review by the Super Lawyers® research department, and they also undergo evaluation by their professional peers.
In this process, the attorneys are first rated by the research department based on 12 indicators of professional achievement and peer recognition. Next, they are given one-to-ten ratings from other respected lawyers who make up “blue ribbon” panels. These respected attorneys only rate candidates who are from the same practice areas. In the end, the ratings from both types of review are used to make the final selections.
For the Rising Stars℠ list, the selection process is the same, except that only attorneys who are age 40 and under or who have a maximum of 10 years of practice experience can be selected for this listing. All lawyers are first considered for the Super Lawyers® list. Those who are not selected for that listing and who meet the Rising Stars℠ criteria can then be considered for the Rising Stars℠ list.
